MEGON & MICHAEL | AYERS HOUSE WEDDING

“Ayers House”  is the modern name for a historic mansion in Adelaide, South Australia located on North Terrace. It is named after Sir Henry Ayers, five times Premier of South Australia and wealthy industrialist, who occupied it from 1855 until 1897. It is the only mansion that has survived on Adelaide’s North Terrace.

For the last 30 years Ayers House has been used as a corporate function centre, restaurant and museum. On display are costumes, silverware, artworks and furniture, as well as a 300 kilogram chandelier.  In the process of changes made the bedrooms and bathroom were demolished to make room for kitchen facilities, and the stables became a restaurant. The original gasoliers can still be seen in the large dining room. In recent years the house has been restored by Clive Holden, a decorative and heritage artist. The work included extensive stencilling, woodgraining, and artwork to recapture some of its former glory.

The Ayers House was the perfect location for Megon & Michael’s wedding. This iconic location was picked by Megon who planned the entire wedding in her first few months in Australia.

Megon was born and brought up in Cape town, South Africa and met Michael when he was on a business trip to South Africa. Michael is from Adelaide, South Australia. After a romantic proposal at the Table Mountains (in Cape Town), they both decided to have their wedding in Adelaide.

Having been in Adelaide only a few months, Megon did a fantastic job on planning her wedding taking care of every little detail. She made sure the day turned out perfect. Adding to the perfect day was Megon’s mum, brother and sister in law taking time out to come all the way from South Africa and be part of Megon & Michael’s most important day.

Our Journey

One another we have found

In South Africa we were bound,

We travelled near and we travelled far,

Our hearts true to who we are.

22 November 2014 we vowed to be true,

And today we officially answer “I do”.
